Description
Dimension: 8.9cm Diameter, 7.9cm HeightDescription:
Fully painted with deep cobalt with light greyish tinge of raging waves surrounding the mystical animals with fine incision onto the unpainted body including flying fishes, winged dragon, four legged animals with long trunks, the vessel is supported with a tall stemmed cylindrical support with splayed foot to a steep sides with flaring mouth rim, the interior is undecorated except for two double rings and a six character mark of Da Ming Xuan De Nian Chi of Xuande period 15
th
century Ming dynasty.
The overall is glazed with a tinge of blue except for the foot rim which off white color showed specks of burnt iron oxide with a very smooth surface. The fine potting for this vessel is where the joint is glazed over between the stemmed stand and the upper with a tongue-and-groove technique.
The fine paste with dense composition or glutinous-like when observed with 1000x magnification allows such form to be successful otherwise will result in warping similar to Longquan celadon stemmed vessels. The brilliant color cobalt blue applied underneath the glaze shows heap-and-pile with silvery sheen and indentations on the glaze surface. Inclusions within the glaze can be observed as well indicating a possible shipwreck excavated piece.
Provenance: Acquired from a fisherman diver in the West Java.
