Composition:
Damascus steel is a combination of high carbon steel 1095 and low carbon alloy steel. It is forged and folded several times to achieve 264 layers. It has various patterns created by manipulation of layers in systematic ways.
High carbon steel content in
Damascus
steel give it strength and toughness where as low carbon alloy steel makes it flexible and enhance its durability.
Heat Treatment:
Skilled heat treatment allows it to achieve hardness up to 60 Hrc on Rockwell.
Note =
Billets /bars are Annealed soft
Purpose :
These Billets with 2 - 3 mm thick can be used for chef knives...
While with 4-5mm are ready to built Skinners, hunting knives, kukris, Bowies etc...
