Antique Chinese Famille Rose Bowl, 18c, Christie’s Provenance;
Up for sale is the coral-red ground Chinese bowl with famille rose and gilt decoration, dated mid-18
th
century or earlier. The bowl features a deep rounded shape resting on a short foot. The interior is hand painted with a dragon in relief and gilt embellished. The exterior is painted and enameled with dragons and phoenix birds in three oval shaped medallions, surrounded by gilt florals and scrolls. Noticeably, mild variations are observed among the dragons, phoenix birds, gilt florals and scrolls. Inside of the rim is decorated with geometric motifs. An underglaze double blue ring is on verso. The bowl bears a Christie's Auction House sticker for lot# 725 on 12/9/9- (illegible year). No other marks are found.
Measures: 7 ½” rim diameter x 3 ¾” high x 3” base diameter. Condition: With no cracks, neither hairlines, but with myriad of small chips around rim, otherwise in good condition.
